    NPIS Notification

    What is NPIS Notification?

NPIS notification refers to submissions made to the National Poisons Information Service within Great Britain.

In Great Britain, the National Poisons Information Service (NPIS) is the appointed body responsible for receiving information on the ingredients of hazardous mixtures placed on the market.

Although it is not mandatory in the same way as the European Union’s Poison Centre Notification (PCN), it is highly recommended because NPIS notification provides essential information for medical advice in the event of an emergency.

By completing your NPIS notifications with Chemleg, you can enhance the safe use of your products.

    NPIS Notification Process

According to the guidance published on the official website of the United Kingdom, the following applies to the NPIS notification process:

    • Manufacturers and downstream users based in Great Britain are advised to make NPIS notifications.
    • To make an NPIS notification, information relating to hazardous mixtures placed on the market, including precautionary details and information for emergency health response, must be submitted using the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) .
    • NPIS will not have access to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) poison centre notification (PCN).

      Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to generate a UFI code for NPIS?

No. In Great Britain, there is no obligation to generate a UFI code. However, if you already have a UFI code, your NPIS product submission will be associated with it.

Yes. NPIS and PCN notifications are separate obligations. Since NPIS (National Poisons Information Service) does not have access to poison centre notifications submitted under ECHA, a separate notification must be made as required.
