UK REACH, which is the United Kingdom’s adaptation of the EU REACH Regulation, applies to manufacturers and importers operating in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales).
Under UK REACH, companies that manufacture or import chemical substances in Great Britain must register their substances with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Companies that previously held EU REACH registrations before Brexit benefited from the simplified UK REACH registration route known as the “Grandfathering process.” According to HSE, the deadline for providing this initial information was 30 April 2021 but you can still submit the information.
Chemleg is ready to support you throughout all UK REACH compliance procedures.
Who Needs UK REACH Registration?
- Manufacturers and importers of chemicals in Great Britain exceeding 1 tonne per year
- Manufacturers, formulators or article producers based outside of GB intending to appoint a GB-based Only Representative (OR) to take on the registration responsibilities of their GB-based importers
- Businesses that previously held EU REACH registrations and wish to grandfather their substances
- Companies that submitted a DUIN and are now required to complete full UK REACH registration

Frequently Asked Questions
What factors determine the registration costs?
UK REACH costs vary depending on the tonnage band, data requirements, testing needs and LoA fees. Also, to register official fees should be made to the authority: For up-to-date fees, please click here.
Can EU REACH data and Letters of Access be used under UK REACH?
No. Since UK REACH is a separate regulation, LoAs obtained under EU REACH are not valid. New data-sharing agreements must be made, and participation in UK REACH consortia is required.
Who is responsible for UK REACH registration?
UK REACH obligations generally lie with the Great Britain-based manufacturer or importer. However, EU or non-EU companies may appoint a UK-based Only Representative to fulfil the registration. Chemleg can support companies with Only Representative services.
How frequently should UK REACH registrations be updated?
Registration holders must update their technical dossier whenever new data becomes available, uses change, classifications are updated or new risks are identified. HSE may conduct periodic checks.
Why is it beneficial to start the UK REACH process early?
Early preparation ensures business continuity without supply chain disruptions. Delays increase both cost and compliance risks.
