On 5 November 2025, the following substance was added to the Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC):

Substances added to the Candidate List may also be included in the Authorisation List in the future. If a substance appears on this list, companies can only continue using it after applying for and obtaining authorisation from the European Commission.
What should companies do?
According to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), the following obligations apply to companies:
- If an article contains a substance from the Candidate List in a concentration above 0.1% (w/w), suppliers must provide customers and consumers with information on the safe use of that article.
- Producers and importers of articles containing a substance from the Candidate List must notify ECHA within six months from the date the substance was added to the list.
- Suppliers in the EU and EEA providing substances listed in the Candidate List are required to update the safety data sheet (SDS) they supply to customers.
- Under the Waste Framework Directive, companies must notify ECHA if the articles they produce contain a substance of very high concern in concentrations above 0.1% (w/w).
- It should also be noted that, under the EU Ecolabel Regulation, products containing SVHCs cannot be awarded the Ecolabel.
