With the latest additions, the number of substances of very high concern (SVHCs) on the Candidate List has increased to 253.

The new chemicals added to the Candidate List on 4 February 2026 were announced by ECHA as follows:

  • n-hexane (EC No: 203-777-6; CAS No: 110-54-3)
  • 4,4′-[2,2,2-trifluoro-1-(trifluoromethyl)ethylidene]diphenol and its salts

These substances may be included in the Authorisation List in the future. In such a case, companies will be required to apply for authorisation in order to continue using these substances.

What Should Companies Do?

ECHA has outlined the obligations of companies as follows:

  • Suppliers of articles containing more than 0.1% (w/w) of the substances listed must provide their customers and consumers with sufficient information for the safe use of the article.
  • Producers and importers of articles containing these substances must notify ECHA within six months from 4 February 2026.
  • Suppliers of the substances within the European Union and the European Economic Area must update the safety data sheets provided to their customers.
  • Under the Waste Framework Directive, companies must also notify ECHA if articles they produce contain an SVHC above a concentration of 0.1% (w/w). These notifications are submitted to SCIP (Substances of Concern In articles as such or in complex objects (Products)).
  • According to the EU Ecolabel Regulation, products containing SVHCs are not eligible for the EU Ecolabel, as stated by ECHA.
